Wifey and I are sticklers for checking our daughters’ progress in school. Not in the helicopter parent style but ensuring they back up what it they say they are doing. Having both of us experienced teachers telling our parents we were doing okay when we were kids, even though we knew we could do better, we are determined to make sure our kids don’t fall into that space. We want their educational experience to be one where they think deeper, wider and are stretched. We are determined that education and learning is not just for exams but lifelong.
One of the upsides of this is rediscovering some of the books we studied as youth. My eldest is currently rehearsing for a starring role in Kes. She has also just finished John Steinbeck’s of Mice and Men. Awesome book. Youngest is reading Perfectly Reflected. It’s a beautiful thing being able to share a love of literature with your children.
